The SDFA is the organisation dedicated to guaranteeing the safety of foods and medicines destined for both human and animal consumption in the country. It also controls chemical and biological substances, as well as electronic products which may have an impact on public health. Its main objective, therefore, is to regulate, supervise and control the foods, medicines and medical devices, as well as to establish the specifications which the goods must comply with. In addition, the SDFA carries out research which enables the definition of clear procedures in the field.
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority has its headquarters in the capital, Riyadh, situated in the centre of the Arabian Peninsula.
