The European Commission<\/strong> has chosen an INMESOL stand-by genset<\/strong>, model II-110<\/strong>, equipped with particular technical specifications to supply emergency power<\/strong> to the iconic government building located in Brussels<\/strong> in the event of mains failure.<\/p>\n

This 110 KVA LTP power soundproof genset, with DSE 7410 technology, is enabled for simultaneous<\/strong> remote control through two different communication channels (RS 232 and RS 485). Additionally, this DSE 7410 module controls the parameters and alarms of the engine and the alternator.<\/p>\n

The power output<\/strong> is enabled for independent connection with the load<\/strong> that supplies the genset, and it also includes an external load bank<\/strong> for the usual power tests<\/strong> performed regularly<\/strong> on emergency or backup equipment.<\/p>\n

The network monitoring <\/strong>feature is carried out by an ATS<\/strong> panel with a DSE 335<\/strong> control unit that detects when a mains failure<\/strong> occurs and sends a start-up signal<\/strong> to the engine<\/strong> of the genset. Once the equipment is on and ready, the DSE335 control unit makes it possible to switch the power supply<\/strong> (which feeds the installation) between the mains and the generator set, and vice versa, when the mains are restored<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This generator set is a very good option for supplying installations related to a building\u2019s security systems<\/strong>, fire and temperature alarms, surveillance cameras, automatic doors, emergency lighting, etc. due to its power, devices set-up, and components for communication with external systems.<\/p>\n

The genset has been installed on the building\u2019s roof.<\/p>\n

The Berlaymont<\/strong> building is located at Schuman<\/strong> square, known as the \u201cEuropean neighbourhood,<\/strong>\u201d and was built in the 60s<\/strong> to be the European Commission\u2019s headquarters<\/strong>. It was vacated in 1994 to be rebuilt, due to the presence of asbestos<\/strong> in its original construction. It became operational again in 2004<\/strong> for the European Commission.<\/p>\n

It is an impressive 14-floor<\/strong> building with an asymmetric fan shape. It serves as the headquarters of the European Commission president and commissioners<\/strong>, several departments and offices<\/strong> also from the European Commission, press and television rooms<\/strong>, meeting<\/strong> rooms, an numerous quarters for different purposes, including a restaurant.<\/p>\n

The European Commission is an institution that represents and defends the European Union interests<\/strong> as a whole. Consisting of 28 commissioners, one for each member state, and a president, position being currently held by the former Prime Minister of Luxemburg Jean-Claude Juncker<\/strong>, the Commission mainly takes care of:<\/p>\n

  • Proposing <\/strong>laws to the Parliament and the Council.<\/li>\n
  • Managing and applying<\/strong> EU policies and budget.<\/li>\n
  • Ensuring <\/strong>the compliance with European law (along with the Court of Law).<\/li>\n
  • Representing <\/strong>the EU internationally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
