{"id":3197,"date":"2016-02-16T09:32:13","date_gmt":"2016-02-16T08:32:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.inmesol.com\/blog\/?p=3197"},"modified":"2023-06-21T14:16:51","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T14:16:51","slug":"parallel-gensets-power-and-efficiency-integrated-into-a-single-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.inmesol.com\/fr\/blog\/parallel-gensets-power-and-efficiency-integrated-into-a-single-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Parallel gensets: Power and efficiency integrated into a single system"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This system has been designed for a <strong>Hospital<\/strong> located in <strong>Dominican Republic<\/strong>, an area where the existing <strong>mains<\/strong> experience energy demand peaks exceeding their capacity.<\/p>\n<p>There are two <strong>900 KVA LTP<\/strong> soundproof gensets, model<strong> IT-865<\/strong>, equipped with an MTU Diesel engine, at 60 HZ.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3194\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3194\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3194 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/parallel-gensets-power-and-efficiency-integrated-into-a-single-system.jpg\" alt=\"Two generator sets IT-865 model parallel on Island, mains-synchronised gensets\" width=\"640\" height=\"450\" title=\"\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3194\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Generator sets&nbsp;IT-865 model parallel on Island, mains-synchronised gensets<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Each genset has a panel integrated into the sets\u2019 chassis for <strong>island synchronisation with the DSE 8610 control module<\/strong> (to synchronise both sets with each other), along with a shared external <strong>ATS panel<\/strong> for the sets and the mains, which enables the <strong>synchronous<\/strong> operation of both <strong>gensets with the mains<\/strong>. <strong>The DSE 8660 control module and two 2500A motorised thermomagnetic circuit breakers are the components of this ATS panel. <\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3196\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3196\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3196 lazyload\" data-src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/1_parallel-gensets-power-and-efficiency-integrated-into-a-single-system.jpg\" alt=\"2500 A ATS panel, enabling the synchronised operation between both sets and the mains\" width=\"640\" height=\"450\" title=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 640px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 640\/450;\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3196\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2500 A ATS panel, enabling the synchronised operation between both sets and the mains<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The sets can operate in <strong>two<\/strong> different ways with this system:<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>As a backup in the event of mains failure:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>sets<\/strong> are in <strong>stand-by<\/strong> when the <strong>mains<\/strong> are <strong>available<\/strong> within acceptable parameters.<\/p>\n<p>In the event of mains <strong>failure<\/strong>, both sets will <strong>start<\/strong> simultaneously, synchronise, and <strong>take on the load<\/strong>. Depending on the load required by the facility at any given time, both sets will continue supplying power, or one will stop and the other will take on the full load until consumption is above a specific (programmable) threshold, at which point the second set will start again, synchronise with the first set, and take on the load.<\/p>\n<p>When the <strong>mains<\/strong> are back up, and acceptable voltage and frequency parameters are reached, both sets will <strong>synchronise with the mains<\/strong> and the load will be transferred to the latter <strong>without losing power supply at any point<\/strong>. There are two operational modes in this configuration:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The sets\u2019 control modules can be configured for <strong>peak-shaving<\/strong>, a mode where the sets will provide the energy that cannot be supplied by the mains to the facility, balancing the power supplied by the sets according to the facility\u2019s needs, and consuming the maximum energy available or up to the limits contracted through the mains.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, the sets\u2019 control modules can be configured to have the sets providing a steady (adjustable) power, leaving the energy demand changes of the facility to be supplied by the mains.
