Inmesol is proud of the TándemMurcia cycling team, which we have been sponsoring since 2011. As first-class sportsmen and as human beings, they are a great source of happiness!
The Clemente-Vera Tandem Wins a Gold Medal in the Spanish Championships
On the weekend of 1 and 2 June, the Spanish Adapted Track Cycling Championships were held at the Luis Puig Sports Palace in Valencia. The two members of the team sponsored by Inmesol, Miguel Ángel Clemente and his guide, Pedro José Vera, won the gold medal after two days of hard racing. On the Saturday, they came second in both the time trials and the kilometre race from a standing start, as well as achieving best time in the individual pursuit event. These excellent results qualified them for the finals on the Sunday, when Clemente and Vera managed to beat their main rivals, the González-Castellanos tandem from the Madrid federation. With this victory, they ratified their title of Spanish Champions.
Spanish Champions Twice Over
We say “ratified” because they are Spanish champions twice over. On 18 and 19 May, they also won the gold medal in the long-distance road race of the Spanish Adapted Cycling Championships, which were held in Águilas (Murcia).
Next Challenge, the World Cup
The next challenge to be faced by the team is the Para-cycling World Cup, which is to be held on 16 June in Cuéllar (Segovia). This time, they will compete as part of the national team. This event will bring together the world’s best tandem cyclists, who will have to ride up to the castle seven times on a stone-paved route that will test their strength and endurance.
Congratulations and Go for It!
Olympic Champions with Coming Generations of Sportspersons
A few days ago the children at the Club de Triatlón de Águilas (Águilas Triathlon Club) had some very special visitors. Our new Spanish champions spent the day with them with a view to encouraging the coming generations to engage in sports.
The young sports enthusiasts had a wonderful time when Clemente and Vera showed them the bronze medals that TándemMurcia won at the London Paralympic Games and paid great attention when the two world-class cyclists gave them advice about how they, too, could one day become first-class sportspeople. Clemente also gave them a message, which some of the children will probably always remember: in spite of the handicaps one might have to deal with in life, determination and courage can make dreams come true.
