For the first two blog articles of 2015, we have compiled a choice selection of books from the world of business. Some have been published recently while others are classics which have new editions appearing constantly due to their timeless value and are included on the reading list for this year in case we haven’t read them yet. Although such lists are always incomplete and subjective – and we have left quite a few runners up in the editing room – these are our ten suggestions.

Ever since the scientist Nikola Tesla began working on wireless energy transmission in the 19th century, this field has been one of the great scientific challenges. Now this almost magical idea of a world without cables is set to become a reality thanks to WiTricity® technology, developed by an MIT spin-off with the same name.

The investigation of new materials with properties which contribute to technological progress is currently one of the scientific fields with the highest funding. (See “Graphene: Material That Will Change Our World”.) For example, for many years many scientists have been working on significant improvements in batteries: their useful life and the time it takes to charge them. Now, a group of researchers from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, led by Professor Chen Xiaodong from the School of Material Science and Engineering, has just made great progress in this field by developing a new battery with a lifespan of more than 20 years, which recharges by up to 70% in just two minutes.
